BEIJING, August 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed the positives of China-U.S. relations during a meeting Friday with U.S. National Security Adviser Susan Rice.
Rice is in Beijing to lay the groundwork for Xi's visit to Washington and a meeting with President Obama next month.
President Xi says China and the U.S. should accelerate negotiations on an investment treaty and expand communications between their militaries. He says the two countries should also seek more cooperation in the energy and infrastructure sectors and on such global issues as climate change and Asia-Pacific affairs.
President Xi also stressed the importance of managing the differences between China and the U.S. while respecting each other's core interests.
Rice says President Obama is looking forward to meeting with Xi and also hopes to see cooperation in more fields between the two countries.
Before meeting President Xi, Rice met with State Councillor Yang Jiechi, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Fan Changlong, the vice chairman of the Chinese Central Military Commission.
