BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The United States says it will deploy F-22 fighter jets to Europe as part of a broader effort to support eastern European members of NATO against Russia.
Air Force Secretary Deborah James made the announcement but did not give the number of planes or when and where they would be deployed. This is the first deployment of F22s to Europe, underlining the growing tensions between NATO and Russia.
Russia's Foreign Ministry has accused the US of using the Ukraine crisis as an excuse to strengthening its military in Europe, risking a slide towards military confrontation.
