China tightens safety checks on companies, ports

English.news.cn   2015-08-21 16:37:28

BEIJING, August 21 (Xinhuanet) -- The deadly explosions in Tianjin have prompted authorities to tighten safety checks on companies and ports that work with chemicals.

Authorities in North China's Hebei province have established 12-thousand inspection teams to check and monitor enterprises that manufacture or handle oil refining, chlor-alkali and synthetic ammonia. So far, they have discovered a total of two thousand 300 possible safety issues and ordered relevant enterprises to improve work safety.

Dalian, a major seaport in Northeast China, has launched a surprise check on container stations for hazardous goods. Companies that have not been able to meet safety standards in Shandong have also been closed until they comply with the rules.

The checks come after the State Council issued an emergency notice last Friday asking governments at all levels to reinforce safety management for dangerous chemicals and explosives, control access to the materials and implement special regulatory measures for highly toxic chemicals.
