BEIJING, July. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- During China's hottest period of the year when many regions are baking, others are getting drenched by heavy rain. Weather authorities in Beijing said rainstorms will drop more than 30 millimeters on the capital Tuesday, resulting in flooded streets and severe traffic congestion during rush hours. The weather authorities expect the rain to last until Wednesday.
Torrential rain hit the south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, elevating water levels in the rivers. Local authorities issued a blue alert, the lowest level in a four-tier warning system, for flooding in the region. Shenyang, the capital of northeastern China's Liaoning province, was hit by timely rain on Monday. The city had been suffering through a sweltering heatwave with temperatures climbing above 30 degrees Celsius for 18 consecutive days. The city has been suffering through its worst drought since 1951.
