BEIJING, July 27 (Xinhuanet) -- As to the latest on the hotel attack in Somalia's capital, the country's president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on Monday gave a defiant message to Al-Shabaab insurgents a day after a bombing on The Jazeera Hotel, which houses several diplomatic missions and is popular among government officials and foreign visitors.
At least 15 people were killed in the suicide vehicle attack. African Union troops helped respond and rescue survivors, including Kenya's ambassador to Somalia. It was the latest in a string of bomb blasts and killings in the war-torn nation. It also came as US President Barack Obama left neighboring Kenya and headed to Ethiopia, both key nations contributing troops to the AU force battling the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabaab group.
The White House strongly condemned Sunday's "abhorrent" attack. And the Somalian president promised that the hotel, and the country, would "be rebuilt and will soon be back in business." The hotel has been the target of Al-Shabaab attacks in the past, including in 2012 when suicide bombers stormed the hotel while President Mohamud was inside.
