BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS Summits are soon to take place in Ufa, the capital of the Russian republic of Bashkortostan.
Hosting two important international events back to back. This is the first time for Ufa to become center stage, receiving top leadership across the world for three days, starting Wednesday.
While Ufa has a population of one million, the city is not well-known on an international level. But the upcoming summits will likely change that. And the locals say that's good news.
A total of 10,000 people are expected for the summits. Preparations began two years ago. Seven hotels were built during this time, and the last four opened their doors only two months ago. Some 400 residents will be working as volunteers, most of them, university students.
Nothing is being left to chance. Security checks have already been posted along roads leading to the summit venue. Ufa seems ready for the big moment.
Ufa now stands ready to receive diplomats, business executives and reporters from more than a dozen countries. In the following days it will be the first to witness important deals and agreements signed, and as its residents hope, opportunities for itself.
