BEIJING, June 22 (Xinhuanet) -- China's southern coastline is preparing for the country's first Typhoon of the year with the arrival of Typhoon Kujira later on Monday.
It's not expected to be a big one however with China's National Meteorological Center issuing its lowest level alert on Sunday.
The Typhoon formed in the South China Sea on Sunday morning, and is moving north at around 10 kilometers an hour.
It will sweep through waters around the Xisha Islands before hitting the Hainan and Guangdong coastlines on Monday night.
With downpours and strong winds expected, Hainan's Maritime Safety Administration has issued a warnings for ships.
"We have issued the alert through our short message platform, through wechat, weibo and radio broadcasting systems. We've warned anyone undertaking maritime and offshore work to avoid Typhoon Kujira in good time," said Li Tao, Hainan Maritime Safety Administration.
