BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Tensions over South China Sea disputes between China and its neighbors and alleged cyber attacks have long been thorny issues for Beijing and Washington. Why have these long-running disputes been so difficult to overcome?
Earlier, we spoke to Zhu Chenghu, a professor at China's National Defense University. He gave us more analysis on this and how the two sides can work to defuse potential areas of conflict.
Professor Zhu Chenghu said: "There are a lot of factors leading to the current tensions like South China Sea and cyber attack. One is mistrust between the two countries. Neither sides can convince the other sides of its moves and behaviours. Secondly, I believe both sides have miscalculation against each other. Thirdly, there is action and reaction. The U.S. is deploying may troop in this region, China has to make reactive move."
"One of measures to defuse the tension is dialogue between militaries. Secondly, to increase dialogue between scholars. Thirdly to increase substantial cooperation."
