BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Nepalese government has appealed to the international community for 1.8 billion US dollars in financial aid to help with earthquake recovery efforts.
Addressing a press conference in the capital on Sunday evening, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala urged the international community and donor agencies to contribute 1.8 billion dollars to the "national Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Fund", which has already been set-up with 200 million dollars from the Nepali government for long-term reconstruction.
Koirala also expressed gratitude to the international community, especially neighboring China, India and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation members, for providing immediate and necessary humanitarian assistance to the Himalayan nation.
