BEIJING, May 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Barca won the first leg 3-0 at home and were carrying a hefty advantage into the Allianz Arena as the Bavarians looked to turn things around in front of their home fans.
But Bayern entered the crucial battle missing several key players, including injured wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
Barcelona promised a goal in Munich, and they almost get it after five minutes, through Ivan Rakitic. But Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer palms the Croat's shot wide at full stretch.
Two minutes later, Bayern got the early goal they needed. Medhi Benatia was left completely unmarked to head home and it was 1-nil to Bayern.
The Spaniards survive a few minutes of intense pressure and respond in style. Lionel Messi pulls the strings from a deep position, sending Luis Suarez through to feed Neymar for an easy tap in to make it 1-1.
Suarez was not offside and the dazzling South American combination stunned Bayern.
Neymar then all but ended Bayern's hopes in the 29th minute. After Suarez's cross from the right, the Brazilian striker drills a low shot home. A huge blow for Bayern, the hosts went into the break needing five goals to advance.
Bayern tried hard to claw back in the second half. Robert Lewandowski notched an equalizer just before the hour, shaking off Javier Mascherano and sending Ter Stegen the wrong way: 5-2 on aggregate and the hosts still needed to score 4 to advance.
Thomas Mueller added another in the 74th, but it was too little too late for the home side. 3-2 was the final score and Barca advanced 5-3 on aggregate.
This was Barca's first Champions League away loss this season, as Bayern ended a four-game losing run in all competitions. But Pep Guardiola's aura of invincibility has taken a hit after failing for the second season to reach the final with the German club.
