62-member Chinese rescue operation at quake site in Nepal

English.news.cn   2015-04-27 15:48:07

BEIJING, April 27 (Xinhuanet) -- This was a family hotel two days ago before its was razed to the ground.

There were at least nine people in the building. But it looks like only one managed to escape.

Two hours after the Chinese rescue team arrived in Nepal, they got to work here.

They said that although the first and second floors of the building were flattened, they were encouraged to find some people alive.

"Now we can see the foundations sank and the building fell to the side. This formed a "Triangle of Life", making it possible to survive in the building," A crew member with Chinese Search & Rescue Team said.

The “Triangle of Life”, as he mentioned, is an earthquake-survival theory, where debris and rubble form a "triangle-shaped cavity", and this space -- within the crushed building -- can help your chances of survival.

And their rescue was testament to this theory, as this man is trapped, but still breathing.

After three hours of intensive work, the crew finally pulls the fortunate survivor from the wreckage and he's transferred to hospital.

The Chinese rescue team was the first international operation to arrive in the mountain kingdom.

They carry with them advanced detecting, excavating and medical equipment, as well as several sniffer dogs.

They will soon expand their search in the country's capital and conduct scanning operations, where it's still possible to find survivors.
