BEIJING, April 26 (Xinhuanet) --
The country's Home Affairs Ministry says that so far, at least 1,832 people are known to have died, including at least 4 Chinese and the death toll is likely to rise significantly.
The China Earthquake Networks Center measured the initial quake at a magnitude of 8.1. It struck 80 kilometers east of Pokhara, at 06:11 GMT, and at a depth of 20 kilometers. Around 30 minutes later, there was a huge aftershock, measuring 7.0.
The quake was also felt in India, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Tibet in southwest China, with the UN estimating that around 4.6 million people felt the tremor. Many people have been injured, but the exact numbers aren't yet known.
At the main hospital in the capital Kathmandu, most of the injured are being treated for broken limbs, with many receiving treatment outside the building. Temporary medical camps have also been set up in Kathmandu.
