BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping and other Asian and African leaders have participated in a highly symbolic stroll to commemorate the historic 1955 Bandung Conference.
The historic walk from the Savoy Homann Hotel to the Independence Building was part of the commemorative events held on the 60th anniversary of that landmark bi-continental gathering in the Indonesian city. The leaders gathered inside the building and took a group photo to mark the historic moment.
They attended the commemoration for the 1955 Asian-African Conference, including a minute of silence, an address by Indonesian President Joko Widodo and statements by regional representatives and observers. The summit drew together leaders and representatives from some 100 Asian and African nations and international organizations.
The first Asian African Conference laid the foundation for the construction of the Non-Aligned Movement, which helped shape the world today.
