BEIJING, April 17.(Xinhuanet) -- China has issued an action plan to improve the country's water quality over the next 5 years. By 2020, 70 percent of the water in China's seven major rivers should be of good quality, and the volume of bad quality underground water across the country should be limited to 15 percent. 95 percent of drinking water in cities should be safe and have better quality.
The plan also sets detailed pollution control measures in industries and daily life, and calls for economic restructuring and strict law enforcement. It also includes water price reform to achieve the target, which is expected to cost at least 5 trillion yuan, create nearly 4 million jobs, and add 2 percentage points to the service sector's 50 percent share of GDP.
