BEIJING, March 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Singapore's founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew has died from pneumonia at the age of 91. Lee had been in the intensive care unit since February 5th. He passed away at 3:18am local time at Singapore General Hospital.
The State flags of Singapore on all government buildings are flying at half-mast and the government has declared a period of national mourning until his funeral on Sunday.
Lee's family will hold a private wake in the next two days, then his body will lie in state at parliament from Wednesday to Saturday.
Singaporeans had been bracing for the news for days, and a sea of flowers had already piled up at the hospital where he was being treated.
