China urges Philippines to be fair to Chinese firm

English.news.cn   2015-02-27 17:07:06

BEIJING, Feb. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- China has urged the Philippines to be fair to a Chinese firm which was involved in building the country's national power grid.

The Philippines had stopped the Chinese State Grid Corporation's operations in the power project, citing security concerns. The Philippines' Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla said that Chinese technicians will be sent home by July, but the Chinese company will retain its 40 percent stake in the National Grid Corporation, which runs the Philippines' power grid.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a routine press conference that the Chinese firm had made important contributions, and called on the Philippines to protect its legitimate interests. The Chinese firm bid in 2007 and won a 25 year license to run the Philippines' national transmission grid.
