BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Rain and snow have hit large parts of China over the first few days of the Lunar New Year holiday.
Regions in the North and Northeast have experienced snow or sleet during the period. A number of highways were closed in Inner Mongolia and Hebei due to the weather conditions. In the central and southern parts of the country, Hunan, Jiangxi, Hubei and Guangxi were all hit by rainstorms. Local authorities have taken precautions, and no serious traffic congestion has been seen.
Fog shrouded parts of North China, and regions along the Yellow and Huaihe rivers on Friday, reducing visibility to less than 500 meters in certain areas. The National Meteorological Center says the fog is expected to clear on Saturday evening. The government has been urging people to light fewer fireworks during this week's Lunar New Year holiday, to help limit air pollution.
