BEIJING, Feb. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- The US think tank, the Center for Strategic & International Studies, will host a conference in Washington on human rights in the DPRK. The DPRK says the US ignored its offer to attend and defend itself. The DPRK's UN Ambassador, Jang Il Hun, told reporters his country will "strongly respond" to the conference. "We also demanded that in case the conference is enforced as scheduled, then we have to participate in the conference as a party directly concerned. Unfortunately, however, the United States has not accepted our request to attend the conference and is going to push ahead. The United States is well advised to mind its own businesses rather than talking or picking holes on human rights issues of other countries," Said Jang Il Hun.
The United Nations released a report on the DPRK's human right issues last year. International pressure behind the report led the UN Security Council to place the issue on its agenda of matters of international peace and security. The DPRK has called the report a "dangerous political provocation".
