BEIJING, Feb. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Throughout the seven day Spring Festival holiday, the Chinese love nothing more than relaxing and getting involved in their favorite activities. But tastes differ across the country. Residents in Beijing love nothing MORE than going to the temple fair. But in China's southern metropolis Guangzhou, known as the flower city, local people relish taking a stroll around the flower fairs to find something colorful to decorate their homes.
Temple of Earth is the most famous among various temple fairs in Beijing during the Spring Festival. Starting from the lunar new year eve and lasting for eight days, Temple of Earth has a unique activity that differs from others.
"The ceremony of making offerings to the earth is unique to the Temple of Earth, and is not held at other temple fairs," said Zhou Haifeng, press spokesman of Temple of Earth Fair.
There's an array of performances, including folk art activities, comedy, and stunts. New this year are the Huangmei opera of Anhui province and a cartoon carnival.
The Guangzhou Spring Festival flower fair's opening ceremony was held on Sunday night. 12 children - each representing one of the 12 flower fairs held across the city- carried a kumquat tree, while a giant kumquat tree was lit up. Dozens of peach blossom trees provided a perfect photo opportunity.
It was very beautiful. So I've brought my mom and dad to see. The TV tower is also more beautiful than usual.
Each of the Spring Festival Flower Fairs run until the Lantern Festival on the 5th March, meaning that there's plenty of time to pop along and smell the roses.
