BEIJING, Feb. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- It's Spring Festival week, and holiday tourism and entertainment is in full swing. Arts venues and tourist hot spots alike are gearing up for the busy season. We go to Beijing and Chongqing to take a look.
Beijing Quju Opera Troupe is busy rehearsing. They'll be performing their Spring Festival Street Show from Friday, at various sites across the capital.
"In the first five days of the year of goat, people can see our shows at Guangdian Temple Fair, Taoranting Park and Liulichang Street. Our actors will perform in the open air," said Sun Dongxing, director of Beijing Quju Opera Troupe.
The Beijing Culture Bureau says 375 special shows will be performed in the capital during the festival.
Everything from traditional performances to concerts and children's plays.
Prestigious overseas groups like the Cuban National Ballet and Russian Philharmonic Orchestra will also be making an appearance.
"The Cuban National Ballet is renowned across the world. This time, Alicia Alonso, the director of the troupe is bringing her performers to China, to offer us a Swan Lake that integrates Cuba's past and present," said Meng Xin, National Center for the Performing Arts.
Down in Chongqing, Zhongshan ancient town is welcoming visitors from all over the country with the traditional "Long banquet."
The event kicks off with "dapen", a unique way of serving food and dishes. This performer carries a tray 20 centimeters wide and 2 meters long on his head. Covered in food, it weighs some 35 kilos.
The long banquet starts at midday. Over 20,000 people join the feast, with over 600 tables lined up along one street. The idea is to start at one end, and eat your way all the way to the other.
