BEIJING, Feb. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Barack Obama have highlighted the need for a political solution to the "internal" conflict in Ukraine to swiftly end the bloodshed there.
The Kremlin said this in a statement, after the two presidents spoke over the phone on Tuesday. They talked about the necessity to safeguard the rights of people living in all regions in Ukraine, including the Russian-speaking ones in the east.
Following the call, the White House said Obama has urged Putin to agree to a peace deal. Putin is due to meet the leaders of Ukraine, Germany and France on Wednesday in Belarus' capital Minsk, in an effort to broker a peace deal.
