Black box shows engine failure after take-off

English.news.cn   2015-02-08 13:39:52

BEIJING, Feb. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- The search continues at the TransAsia plane crash site, with authorities saying 40 bodies have now been recovered and only three are still missing. Taiwan's civil aviation authority has ordered pilots flying the same model of plane as the one that crashed, to take a four day training course. Data from the plane's black box shows the pilot manually shut down one of the engines... after the other one had failed, shortly after take-off.

The search goes on, as rescue workers in Taiwan move further downstream. The murky waters of the Keelung river have been reluctant to give up the victims of this disaster. But conditions on Saturday were better, the temperature warmer and visibility improved

By the afternoon they were able to announce that more bodies had been recovered from the crash site.

"The result of today's search operation is that we found four bodies. As of 4:00 p.m. (GMT 0800) local time, there are still 4 passengers still missing. We have already announced that 54 passengers have been found, 15 (injured) passengers who have been sent to the hospital and 39 passengers who are dead. As of now 39 bodies have been identified," said Lin Zhi-Ming, Director General of Taiwan Civil Aeronautics Administration.

But attention is also focusing on the preliminary release of information from the black boxes. Data and cockpit audio indicates the pilots were warned about a flame out in the right hand engine…although the engine seems to have been functioning.

But what remains unexplained is why the pilots shut down the other engine, causing a fatal loss of thrust…and the plane ultimately to crash. At this memorial hall, the talk was of remembrance rather than attributing blame…

A steady flow of mourners going into the memorial hall to pay their respect to the victims of Transasia air disaster, so far relatives of the taiwanese victims of the disaster but increasingly more remembering those.

As the evening passed, news that one more victim had been found at the crash site…Three remain unaccounted for, before all of the victims can be laid to rest.
