BEIJING, Feb. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Taiwan's Aviation Safety Council held a press conference about the ongoing investigation into the deadly plane crash that left at least 35 dead. Thomas Wang, managing director of the council confirmed both engines worked well before the flight took off.
"Both engines were in good condition when the flight took off. But one of the engines made an alert after it took-off at 1,200 feet," he said.
Wang added that a preliminary report on the accident will be announced in 30 days. The Aviation Authority also said the pilot of TransAsia Airways Flight 235 issued a Mayday call before the propeller jet descended rapidly and crashed into the Keelung river.
Taiwan's Civil Aeronautical Administration released a snippet of audio including the pilot's mayday call. An agency official confirmed the mayday distress call, but did not say how it might be related to the cause of the crash.
So far, both the council and the airliner, Taipei-based TransAsia Airways, are unable to account on causes for the crash.
