BEIJING, Jan. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- China's Spring Festival travel rush is expected to start Wednesday. And in the ensuing 40 days, an estimated 2.8 billion trips will be made, by rail, road or air travel.
Spring Festival, which marks the beginning of a new lunar year, is the most significant Chinese holiday, and a time for reunions of families across the country.
Authorities predict the railways will still take on the biggest pressure, accommodating some 295 million trips, up by 10 percent from last year. A record number of 991 pairs of temporary trains will be added to ease the pressure.
More than 47 million plane trips are expected, an 8 percent increase from last year.
