China strongly opposes Obama-Dalai Lama meeting

English.news.cn   2015-02-03 11:02:12

BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- China is firmly opposed to any meeting between any country's leader and the Dalai Lama "in any form," a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Monday.

"We strongly oppose any country interfering in China's internal affairs in the name of issues regarding Tibet," Hong Lei told a press briefing.

His comments came in response to a question regarding a possible meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama and the Dalai Lama at a Feb. 5 "prayer breakfast."

"Issues regarding Tibet concern China's core interests and national sentiments," according to Hong.

"We urge the United States to stick to its commitments on issues regarding Tibet, and properly settle related issue with the overall interests of China-U.S. relations in mind," he said.
