BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- The US has begun deploying troops to help train Syrian rebels in their fight against Islamic State.
According to the Pentagon, around 100 soldiers will head to the Middle East to establish training sites. The deployment of mostly special operations forces, was authorized last week. The troops will begin arriving in countries outside Syria in the coming days.
Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia have offered to host sites for US forces to train members of the Syrian opposition. Officials say the US is planning to send more than 400 troops for the training mission and several hundred support forces.
