BEIJING, Jan. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- A Chinese consular working group has arrived in Myitgyina, the capital of Myanmar's northernmost Kachin state. They said no Chinese citizens were trapped in the armed clashes.
Local media reported on Sunday that several hundred Chinese nationals were trapped in the war zone between government troops and the Kachin Independence Army in northern Myanmar. The Chinese consular working group has disproven this rumour.
A senior official of the Myanmar Peace Center said on Monday that the clashes in the northernmost Kachin state are under control. Heavy clashes between the two sides erupted on Thursday in Phakant, following a KIA ambush on a convoy of Kachin state's Transport Minister.
