BEIJING, Jan. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- As the world waits for answers on the cause to the Airasia crash, the Indonesian National Transport Safety Committee is working around the clock to analyze the black boxes retrieved from the Java sea.
Chief Investigator Tatang Kurniadi told CCTV that experts have started to download the information in the flight data recorder.
These were the last words recorded from the ill-fate jetliner.
The black boxes, which are actually orange, carry flight data and the records of conversation in the cockpit, which are key to investigations into the cause of the accident.
Here in the National Transportation Safety Committee, investigators are extracting the data, with the answers waiting in the wings.
"Now that the black boxes have been opened. We can download it safely, securely and in all condition from the flight data recorders. We have been downloading flight data for 174 hours," he said.
Experts from Singapore and South Korea are assisting the analysis, with the help of Airbus. But the full download and analysis process may still take weeks, or a year, depending on how fast the data can be interpreted. And as Kurniadi said, even if the process is completed, not all the information from the recorder can be made public.
"The black boxes, the contents, is for the investigators to investigate and then to analyse based on those black boxes. Not all contents of the black boxes will be print and send to the public," he said.
The two black boxes have been the focus of search and rescue teams in the Java Sea. They were found and brought ashore separately last week. Both were then cleaned, dried and sent to the laboratory.
Experts believe, though a final analysis process may take a long time, a preliminary report will be issued in the coming days.
