BEIJING, Jan. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The People's Liberation Army has held a maritime comprehensive enforcement drill near Yongxing Island of Sansha City, in south China's Hainan Province.
21 ships and about 260 armed personnel were involved in the exercise. After arriving at the training area, the command ship ordered an enforcement ship to check a fishing boat suspected of carrying out illegal activities. In the search, three kilograms of explosives were found. The drill also included rescuing people at sea and joint patrolling operations.
Since the establishment of Sansha City in 2012, a greater number of law enforcement officers and equipment have been deployed there. Four local military departments were also set up on Tuesday to coordinate work of the armed forces.
