BEIJING, Jan. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Beijing has launched a website asserting China's claim over the Diaoyu Islands.
The new website, www.diaoyudao.org.cn , was unveiled by the State Oceanic Administration on Tuesday. It features a number of legal documents to support Chinese sovereignty, including the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Declaration from World War Two. It also displays a timeline of historical documents dating back to 1403, the year the islands first appeared in writings.
Territorial disputes over the Diaoyu Islands have been a source of tension between China and Japan. The site is currently only available in Chinese. It will soon be launched in at least seven other languages, including Japanese.
