BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- The northeastern city Shenyang has embraced its annual ice and snow festival. A wealth of fun, high octane ice games and activities have attracted visitors from near and far to join the winter fun!
A "flash mob" performance in one of the city's business streets on Saturday marked the official opening of the annual Shenyang International Ice and Snow Festival.
The group danced to the Chinese hit song, "Little Apple", setting a joyful tone for the three month long event.
More than 100 ice-related activities will be held across the city's parks and skii resorts. Skii lovers and merrymakers came out early to enjoy the fun.
From skiing to snow slides, driving a motorcycle on ice, or taking a ride on a horse-drawn sleigh. There's something for everyone. Some have traveled afar to experience the northern icy fun.
"I came from Fujian. It's great! It's fun. I've brought my daughter here to let her see snow, which she hasn't seen in our city."
Sliding down the slopes atop a snow tube has proved a hit not just among kids... but also adults, eager to relive childhood memories.
"I'm so happy. I've taken it twice."
"We've come as a group. We really enjoy it!"
Ski competitions, temple and lantern fairs will be held in the city over the coming days. Visitors can also enjoy the spectacle of ice fishing in nearby counties. And the winter festival fun isn't complete without a taste of the local delicacy - a stew of fish, meat and vegetables.
