BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Friday's anniversary concert at the National Center for the Performing Arts featured a very apt classic - Beethoven's famous 7th Symphony. Seven years since it was built, the NCPA is now firmly established as an artistic and architectural icon in Beijing.
Opening with Beethoven's powerful melodies the Egmont Overture set the tone for the celebration.
Christoph Eschenbach was back once again as honored guest conductor, his baton keeping steady time over the NCPA Symphony Orchestra. And the program featured two of the biggest heavyweights of classical music, Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 and Beethoven's Symphony No.7, the perfect inclusion for a 7th birthday.
This is the third time Eschenbach has worked with the NCPA orchestra.
The 74-year-old maestro is known for his great passion for collaborating with younger, less globally established orchestras.
Since its launch in 2007, the art and theater complex has designated December the 22nd as a Public Open Day, with a special festival held for the occasion.
