BEIJING, Dec. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- President Xi has wrapped up his 28-hour visit after attending celebrations for the 15th anniversary of Macao's return to China, and the inauguration of its fourth-term government. After addressing the anniversary ceremony, President Xi met with Macao SAR's principal officials, and Macao-based central gov't officials and enterprise executives. He also inspected the PLA garrison there.
Opening a new chapter of prosperity and stability.
President Xi Jinping said the new SAR government faces high expectations from the entire society.
He urged Macao's principal officials, and heads of legislative and judicial organs to ensure a smooth transition of work.
Xi also called on them to perform their duties strictly under the Basic Law, defend the authority of the chief executive, and ensure the smooth operation of the administrative, legislative and judicial bodies.
The president encouraged the officials to address the top concerns of the people of Macao.
In a separate meeting on Saturday, President Xi met with central government officials and enterprise executives stationed in Macao.
He urged them to make unremitting efforts to advance the cause of "one country, two systems."
Xi hailed the significant contributions they have made to local prosperity and stability.
The president urged them to have a greater sense of responsibility, and to push forward the practice of "one country, two systems" in Macao.
Xi also inspected the Chinese People's Liberation Army's Macao Garrison on Saturday.
He called on the soldiers to make selfless devotions for the benefit of the people of Macao.
Xi praised the troops' resolute implementation of the orders of the Central Military Commission, their continued efforts for self-improvement and their faithful performance of obligations.
The president noted the garrison has portrayed a good image of the PLA and won widespread acclaim from local people for its major contribution to Macao's prosperity and stability.
Xi also emphasized the significant role and mission of the garrison as a symbol of China's national sovereignty.
And President Xi urged the soldiers to further enhance training and management.
