China says it has right to refuse UK lawmakers' entry to HK

English.news.cn   2014-12-02 10:41:20

BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- China says it has the right to decide who it lets into Hong Kong. The remarks by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying came after a delegation of British lawmakers, who wanted to inquire about the current hostile situation in there, was refused entry. Hua Chunying says China has voiced opposition about this many times.

"Hong Kong is China’s Special Administrative Region. Beijing is in charge of Hong Kong’s foreign affairs. China has said many times to Britain that it is resolutely opposed to the so-called delegation of the British parliament’s foreign affairs committee going to Hong Kong for a so-called investigation, and asked they cancel the visit. If certain British MPs are determined to do this -- which is overt confrontation -- it’s not beneficial for Sino-British ties. Our door is always open to those who want better Sino-British relations, but we firmly oppose and won’t allow anyone to interfere in China’s internal affairs," Hua said.
