BEIJING, Nov.30 (Xinhuanet) -- The death toll from Ebola across West Africa is now nearing 7,000.
The latest World Health Organization number jumped about 1,000 deaths higher than the previous figure issued, but it is believed to have included unreported deaths since the outbreak began.
Officials say the infection rate is more significant than the death toll, because it tells how the virus is spreading.
Liberia has the highest number of deaths, with more than 4,000, but the infection rate is decreasing.
While the disease is spreading fast in Sierra Leone, with more than 6,000 cases reported.
A total of 16,000 cases have been reported in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Mali reported seven deaths, while both Nigeria and Senegal have come out of their quarantine period, and no new cases or deaths have been reported.
