BEIJING, Nov.25 (Xinhuanet) -- A grand jury has reached a verdict on whether to charge a Missouri police officer who shot dead an unarmed black teenager. The decision could be announced at any moment.
18-year-old Michael Brown was killed by white police officer Darren Wilson in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson in Missouri on August the ninth, sparking months of protests, sometimes violent, in the predominantly African-American community.
The governor of Missouri, Jay Nixon, declared a state of emergency last week, and activated the state’s National Guard in anticipation of escalated tensions. He also made a plea for peaceful response, no matter what the outcome of the grand jury.
Several schools in the area have announced that they will be closed on Tuesday.
