BEIJING, Nov. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Fiji was the first South Pacific island country to establish diplomatic relations with China. Since then, bilateral trade and investment cooperation has been increasing.
The bilateral trade volume reached over 300-million US dollars in 2013. And China is Fiji's second largest aid donor. China provided the country nearly 18 million US dollars in aid last year. The Chinese Ambassador to Fiji, Huang Yong, said that President Xi Jinping's visit will push bilateral ties to a new level.
"Actually this aid is a kind of support, which has been welcomed by the people of Fiji," Yong said. "China's aid to Fiji, both free assistance and concessional loans, has significantly increased and has had good results. So I think President Xi's visit will further broaden economic cooperation between China and Fiji."
