BEIJING Nov. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- On Thursday, Premier Li held talks with some 70 Internet industry leaders from China and abroad in Hangzhou. During their meeting, Premier Li said the Chinese government strongly supports the development of the internet sector. He pointed out that the majority of China's vibrant small and micro enterprises that flourished in the past year or so, are in the internet or information technology sector.
While during the day's meetings in Wuzhen, internet governance and cyber security were highlighted among the issues being discussed. Experts agreed that the development of the internet has posed new challenges to national sovereignty, security and development interests. Lu Wei, the Chinese minister of cyberspace administration, said the country needs to strengthen communication, establish an international internet governance system based on multilateralism, democracy and transparency.
The conference saw roughly 1000 internet professionals, officials and experts from more than 100 countries and regions in attendance. Founders of China’s top three internet companies all joined in.
