BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The 6-day event features ten Australian and Chinese films. Productions such as "American Dreams in China," "Beijing Love Story" will be presented at the festival. Australian features including "Paper Planes" and "Charlie’s Country" are also being screened.
"The first Chinese movie I ever watched was called, great Chinese films," said an audience member.
Many believe this festival will give more Australians a better understanding of Chinese society and culture, and boost friendship between the two countries.
"It's more than just a festival. I think it's a very strong, very powerful opportunity for the people of China to show us through their film, something about their culture, tell us their stories, and for us, in the Western world particularly, to develop a great understanding of China. We know a lot about America, we know a lot about Europe, but we are yet to learn about this great country called China," said Des Power, film producer.
"We are truly overwhelmed by the Australian people's enthusiasm for Chinese cinema and Chinese culture. This is only the first event! We are planning to make it a annual festival," said Liu Xiuhua, vice president of China-Australia Int'l Film Festival.
Established filmmakers from both countries have been invited as judges for the competition section. An award ceremony will be held at the end of the festival.
