BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- The UN General Assembly has voted for the 23rd year in a row to condemn the US' commercial, economic and financial embargo against Cuba.
General Assembly resolutions are unenforceable but the vote has given Cuba an annual stage to demonstrate the isolation of the US on the embargo. The embargo was enacted in 1960 following Cuba's nationalisation of properties belonging to US citizens and corporations. Sanctions were strengthened to a near-total embargo in 1962. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said a majority of Cubans have been born under the embargo.
"The humanitarian damage is growing," Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said. "Now it is 77% of Cubans who were born under these circumstances. The suffering of our families cannot be justified."
"We can try to find solutions to our differences, through respectful dialogue and cooperation in areas of common interest. We can live and relate to each other in a civilised way in spite of our differences."
