BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- A Japanese delegation has arrived in Pyongyang for an update on the DPRK's investigation into the fate of Japanese citizens abducted decades ago.
The 11-member delegation is led by Junichi Ihara, Director General of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau. The visit will last four days. The delegates will hold talks with a DPRK special investigation committee. The DPRK issued the invitation last month after the two sides agreed on reopening the probe in May.
In 2002 the DPRK admitted to having abducted 13 Japanese nationals in the 1970s and 1980s. Pyongyang has since repeatedly stated that the matter was settled. Five were allowed to return home and the other eight declared dead. But Tokyo lists 17 kidnapped citizens and says there may have been more.
