BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Media at home and abroad have been closely following the discussions on how to strengthen the rule of law.
The Global Times said on its website that the rule of law is more than a national policy: it’s an indication of capability and an all-round update of the system of governance.
It adds that decision-makers should be firmly determined to promote the concept, from legislation and education to law enforcement.
South China Morning Post published an article, saying that the laws governing a society must be based on sound, objective reason, and that no one can be above them. Only then, it says, can human rights be protected.
The Diplomat meanwhile said that the emphasis on "rule of law" is based on economic goals. It argues that the rule of law will help enforce anti-corruption measures and limit the power of local officials to resist the country’s economic reforms.
And, an article in Xinhua’s new media platform "Thinker" points out that it is abuses of power -- not violations of the law by ordinary people -- that has caused fairness and justice to retreat. The article also says the key to legal construction is controlling powers by placing them "in the cage of a system".
