Li Keqiang, Medvedev meet the press

BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Premier Li has discussed bilateral cooperation with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev in Moscow.

Premier Li and Prime Minister Medvedev first heard briefs from four bilateral cooperative committees on investment, energy, culture and the committee responsible for meetings of high officials from both governments. Li said China and Russia are each other’s largest neighbouring countries and important partners. They are both major emerging economies and strengthening bilateral cooperation will benefit world peace and development.

Medvedev praised Russia-China cooperation and called the two countries "strategic partners." He said China is Russia’s "utmost foreign trade partner." Russia and China also signed over 40 deals in energy, finance and trade during this visit.

The two leaders also met the press after the signing ceremony. Li introduced the achievements of this 19th Chinese-Russian Prime Ministers’ Regular Meeting. He also hoped to further open markets to each other, upgrade trade cooperation and strengthen two-way investments.

The visiting Chinese Premier also met the chairwoman of Russian Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko on Monday. Li said he hoped to consolidate and implement the existing achievements and develop new areas of cooperation and projects. Matviyenko expressed her confidence in the future of China-Russia ties and said the Federation will play an active role in promoting closer ties.
