BEIJING, Sept.18 (Xinhuanet) -- Typhoon Kalmaegi has now weakened to a tropical storm after making landfall in southern China on Tuesday. But the imapct of its destruction remains visible across the southern coast.
On the island province of Hainan, over 440,000 people have been affected, with close to 100-thousand forced to relocate. Clean-up work began overnight to drain the water from city streets.
In the coastal Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 630,000 more people were affected by the severe weather. Two pedestrians were killed by falling trees. And more than a million households are still without power. Schools in the region also remain closed.
And in Guangdong, city streets were left flooded and close to a million people affected, after heavy downpours pounded the province.
