BEIJING, Aug. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with foreign leaders in Nanjing at the opening ceremony of the second Summer Youth Olympic Games. President Xi welcomed the leaders to the opening ceremony. They in turn spoke highly of the opening ceremony and wished the Nanjing Youth Olympics a success.
In his meeting with Prince Albert II of Monaco, President Xi Jinping expressed his appreciation for the Prince's efforts in promoting the development of the international Olympic movement. Prince Albert is a member of the International Olympic Committee and President Xi thanked him for his support of the Beijing Olympics and the Nanjing Youth Olympics.
Xi said China would like to take advantage of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2015, to deepen political mutual trust, promote cooperation in various areas and continue to support each other in multilateral occasions. Xi said he hoped this would lift China-Monaco ties to a new level.
The President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanovic, also attended the opening ceremony in Nanjing.
As a new established central-east Europe country, China has always treated it as a reliable friend since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 2006.
Xi Jinping said China hoped to maintain high-level exchanges with Montenegro, deepen political trust and promote cooperation in various fields.
Vujanovic said Montenegro would like to promote the development of China and central-East Europe relations.
President Xi Jinping also met with President of Fiji, Epeli Nailatikau.
He pointed out that Fiji is a country of important influence in the Pacific island region. The development of China-Fiji ties are in line with the fundamental interest of both sides.
President Nailatikau said that Fuji welcomes more economic cooperation with China and more Chinese investment.
During the meeting with Vanuatu's Prime Minster, Joe Natuman, President Xi Jinping appreciated the country's path of sustainable development said that China would like to strengthen cooperation on areas such as transportation, clean energy and infrastructure construction. Natuman also extended his condolences for the victims of the Yunnan Earthquake earlier this month.
