BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Forty-four people have been killed and 11 others injured after a tour bus fell into a valley in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region Saturday. According to local authorities, the accident occurred on the No. 318 National Highway in Nyemo County, after the bus crashed with a sports utility vehicle and a pick-up truck. The bus passengers were mainly tourists from regions including Anhui, Shandong and Hebei provinces and Shanghai municipality.
The injured are now being treated at several hospitals in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet Autonomous Region. Their injuries are not life-threatening. Police have detained the managers of the travel agency and the vehicle tour company. An investigation is underway.
