Health officials: No Ebola in China

English.news.cn   2014-08-09 09:22:59

BEIJING, Aug. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- The Ministry of Commerce says China will send emergency humanitarian aid worth nearly 5 million US Dollars to countries in West Africa currently suffering the deadly Ebola epidemic.

The shipments will mainly include protective gear, patient monitoring equipment, sprays and medicines. Meanwhile, the National Health and Family Planning Commission says NO Ebola cases have been reported in China.

The commission says it’s strengthening communication with the World Health Organization to better monitor and predict the spread of Ebola. It’s also ordered border control authorities to intensify checks on inbound travellers from the affected countries.

Commission spokeswoman, Song Shuli, says the risk of the virus spreading beyond Africa is still low, based on information from the WHO. Ebola has a 90 percent fatality rate. It’s transmitted through direct contact with body fluids from an infected person.
