BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhuanet) -- There's just a week to go till the July 20th target deadline for a lasting deal on Iran’s nuclear program and despite the presence of some major diplomatic figures at the latest talks in Vienna, it seems like that deadline will be extended, before any deal is announced.
US Secretary of State John Kerry and a number of other foreign ministers are adding diplomatic muscle to the latest round of talks between Iran, the US, China, Russia, France, the UK and Germany. But deep differences remain, separating the various sides. The ultimate goal is to restrict Iran’s uranium enrichment and plutonium production, in return for the scrapping of international trade and oil sanctions. But it’s the percentages and the fine detail that’s stalling an agreement, with Washington and Tehran pulling at either end of the spectrum.
John Kerry is in Vienna following what’s been hailed as a diplomatic success in Afghanistan, where he persuaded rival presidential candidates to agree to a full audit of the recent runoff election.
