BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhuanet) -- China's Middle East Special envoy Wu Sike called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Palestine five days of widespread violence, which have caused heavy casualties.
Wu said China is deeply concerned about the escalating conflict between the two sides, and the tension should be resolved through peace talks.
"A tit-for-tat response can only worsen the situation, and create more antagonism and hatred. That does not help anyone, and will make the goal of peace unattainable. Under the circumstances, we urge both Palestine and Israel to restrain themselves and avoid an escalation of tensions. A ceasefire needs to be sought out as soon as possible, and any pressing issues can be visited through negotiation. That is an outcome that China and the international community are looking forward to seeing," he said.
