Antonio Rattin weighs in on Suarez controversy

BEIJING, June 28 (Xinhuanet) -- FIFA has reached a decision regarding one of the major controversies in the World Cup so far. Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez has been handed a four month ban from all football-related activity for biting Italian defender Giorgiao Chiellini.

The incident has brought out responses from supporters, the media and former players, including former Argentina captain, Antonio Rattin, who is no stranger to controversies himself. Rattin was sent off during Argentina’s match against England in 1966. He spoke to CCTV’s Joel Richards about that incident which changed the game, but he first said that he believes that FIFA must use video evidence if a referee does not see an incident during a game.

"Antonio Rattin is one of the most great players in Argentina football history, but he is internationally really play is best remembered play for that sending off against England in 1966. That really appears now Luis Suarez, who has gonna a similar career, a fantastic goal scorer, but who is remembers now for what is not the first, not the second, but the third biting incident." said Joel Richards, Rio de Janeiro.

Antonio Rattin is well placed to give an opinion on controversies at World Cups. He was at the centre of one of the tournament most iconic moments in 1966 Argentina against England at Wembley when he was sent off in the game. Rattin was supposedly sent off for insulting the referee, though it’s said the German referee spoke no Spanish. The incident involving Rattin happened in a very different era

"The 1966 World Cup was the last one that didn’t have satellite TV. My sending off lasted 25 or 30 minutes, it suspended the game. I had to leave the pitch, so I sat on the Queen’s red carpet, I grabbed the flag in my fist, they threw chocolate at me. I picked it up and ate it to annoy the English fans in the stands." said Antonio Rattin, Former Argentina Captain.

The incident brought in a major change in how match referees take charge of games.
